Guide book used: Lonely Planet. Sri Lanka. 12th edition

Pictures of Kandy can be seen here.

Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic

As you would expect you have to remove your shoes to enter this shrine. However, you actually have to remove them to walk through the complex and so you are walking outside barefoot which is all very well until it rains and your feet get absolutely filthy.

When you get back your shoes foreigners are offered a seat and some cardboard in expectation of a tip.

Tea Museum

Locals seem to know this as the Tea Factory which leads to some confusion as to whether you are talking about the same place.

http://www.ceylonteamuseum.com Tel 081 3803 204. Opening times in Lonely Planet are wrong. It is open 8.30am-4.30pm Tue-Sat and 8.30am-3.30pm Sun. Entry is now Rs500.

Kandyan Art Association Dance Show

There is an upstairs part to the auditorium which is probably better to take photographs from. The front of the downstairs is largely reserved for tour groups.

The Hotel

There is nothing to recommend this place. The location is up some backstreet on a hill with not a particularly great view. There supposed luxury rooms had no sheets on the beds and the bathrooms were very basic and all for Rs3000 a night!
