Located at the southernmost tip of Hainan, Sanya has long been hailed as China’s answer to Hawaii. Among the many jewels of the island, Haitang Bay has a sandy coastline of nearly 19 kilometres – more than three times that of the better-known Yalong Bay – a secret waiting to be discovered northeast of downtown Sanya.

Occupying part of that pristine beachfront is Shangri-La’s Sanya Resort & Spa, Hainan, recently opened to welcome holidaymakers. It is the first Shangri-La resort to open in China and, with its stellar restaurants and myriad of activities, one that might be hard to leave.
