The effect of hosting the World Cup on Korea and in particular Seoul.
The World Cup was a goal for Seoul. It has been far more successful than the Olympics at putting Korea on the world map. Who can forget the sea of red in the City Hall area as hundreds of thousands supported the home team? Across the city the suburbs echoed to the cry “Oh, Pilsung Korea”, engulfed in a tidal wave of enthusiasm. Scenes of Seoulites dancing atop buses were seen around the world and everyone now knows the Koreans pride and cultural identity.
