The MG3 is one of the latest of the new MGs – under the ownership of Chinese brand Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) – that will go on sale in Australia soon. We tested it in China to see whether it cuts the mustard ahead of its local launch.

Our black test model was finished off with the optional extra Union Jack on the roof. Strange maybe for a Chinese car, but the MG3 was largely designed in the UK which is evidenced in its modern lines. MG is one of the few Chinese manufacturers that realise the importance of design architecture across the range and the 3 sports the same trapezoidal grille as the MG6.
